we know that president obama's relationship with mr. putin has been at the very least complicated over the years. how could that play a factor in all of this? >> reporter: well, look, i think the word "complicated" is a didngood word for this, craig. it's not clear how that will play a role. at this point it appears as though putin has reached out to the president and wants to work with him as they continue with this investigation, but as you point out, there have been strains between the two countries, for example. they haven't seen eye to eye in terms of how to handle syria. so there have been some points of contention. we should point out, though, that the two are expected to meet on the sidelines of the g-8 summit, which will occur this summer, so there is a chance for them to sit down and there has been some level of outreach prior to the boston bombings to try to smooth over relations. of course that hasn't exactly happened, so it's hard to see how that might play a role in this and i think we shouldn't assume that it will. invest
